Learner Assessment

Objective: Assess the effectiveness and efficiency of instructional strategies and student learning achievements through the evaluation of program and/or curricula outcomes.

Artifact 19: Psychometric Analysis Assignment from Evaluation and Assessment of Teaching and Learning in Health Professions Education (HPTT 605)

The Pyschometric Analysis assignment displays my knowledge of evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of sample multiple choice and short answer questions. This was material that I was not familiar with prior to taking this course but it helped me become a better question writer. This assignment helped me learn to evaluate the psychometrics given such as the number of exam takers, correct/incorrect answers, difficulty index, discrimination index, class average, standard deviation, and lowest/highest scores. These numbers ultimately help decide if questions on exams/quizzes are valid and reliable and should be kept or revised for future exams. It also made me recognize that instructors can use these numbers to help advise students as to what content areas they may struggle with and what to improve upon in the future.

Artifact 20: VERT Proficiency Rubric from Evaluation and Assessment of Teaching and Learning in Health Professions Education (HPTT 605)

The purpose of creating a proficiency rubric was to test a student’s knowledge of using the Virtual Environment for Radiotherapy Training (VERT) system and becoming proficient using various types of equipment (Varian, Siemens, Elekta) prior to rotating to their clinical facilities. Previously the VERT was used more as an introductory component and this assignment/rubric would promote more efficiency and competency in a simulated environment. Creating the rubric ultimately helped me visually organize what I wanted to students to learn through the simulation and set expectations, while allowing the students to be prepared for what they were going to be evaluated on. I also feel it is important to allow for written comments on evaluations instead of only a number score. I have already taken this practice with me into the clinical setting as the new student clinical supervisor at our site. I make sure to give written feedback with students and also ask them for feedback of our site at the end of their rotations.
